Formal job creation under the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) saw a slight drop in October compared to September, official data showed. The ESIC scheme added 1.73 million subscribers in October, compared to 1.89 million in the previous month.

However, more new establishments came under the ESIC month-on-month in October, according to the data released by the labour and employment ministry. As per the data, 23,468 new establishments were recognised under the ESIC in October, compared to 22,544 new establishments in the month before.

Employees aged up to 25 years made up 47.76% of the total workforce employed under the ESIC scheme in October, a shade lower than 47.98% in September.

Youths constituted 0.82 million out of the total 1.73 million employees added under the scheme in October. At the gender level, the payroll data suggests 0.33 million female members were enrolled in October, in addition to 51 transgender employees. "It shows ESIC is committed to deliver benefits to every section of the society," the ministry said, adding that payroll data is provisional since the data generation is a continuous exercise.
