Fights over land, water, road hit Orissa's industrialisation
The Orissa government has decided to beef up law and order situation in the industrial areas of the state as frequent violences over land.
The state government will establish more police stations in industrial areas. The decision was taken after a meeting between state officials and representatives of 14 steel units yesterday.
The meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy heard grievances of industries which had already started production.
The sources said, of the 46 companies which had signed MoUs with the government for setting up steel units in the state, 26 had already started production.
"We heard their grievances. Representatives of 14 units from four districts -- Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar -- attended the meeting," said a senior official.
According to the Chief Secretary, most of the industries complained of law and order problem. "Some industries from Kalinga Nagar Industrial Estate alleged that they were unable to acquire land and build boundary wall even as the land had been allotted to them," he said.
Tripathy said resistance from local people was the prime concern of most of the industries. Even as some industries had already given compensation, they were asked to pay more without any reason, he pointed out.
