India’s factory workforce crossed 20 million in 2024-25, led by gains in West Bengal, Telangana, Maharashtra and UP, and sectors such as food products and electrical equipment.

Industrial GVA rose 9.6% to Rs 26.9 lakh crore, and productivity inched up to Rs 11 lakh per worker, though it declined in several key states. Average earnings increased to Rs 3.8 lakh. Anoushka Sawhney takes a look.
