Economic Survey 2013: Raghuram Rajan's young brigade

The Economic Survey is written by an eclectic group of economists, both young and old, aided by inputs and ideas from the central bank, research bodies and independent external experts.

ET brings you a glimpse of some of the young faces in chief economic adviser Raghuram Rajan's team that worked on his first Survey.

PRANJUL BHANDARI

A Cambridge University alumnus and ex-drummer, Bhandari is an economist in the office of the Chief Economic Adviser. She previously worked as economist at Goldman Sachs and the Planning Commission. Bhandari's profile on the ministry website says her enthusiasm for painting demands a shake-up of imagination.

KANIKA GROVER

An avid golfer, Grover is a consultant in the climate change finance unit of the finance ministry. She has previously worked with Boston Strategies Intl as associate consultant. She also loves to play sitar and piano.

JYOTSNA MEHTA

Trained in Kathak and Hindustani classical music, Mehta is a full-time consultant with the finance ministry. She holds a masters degree in economics from TERI University with specialisation in environmental and resource economics.

PRACHI MISHRA

Senior economist in the office of the Chief Economic Adviser. A PhD in economics from Columbia University, Mishra has served as senior economist in the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council. She has also worked with the International Monetary Fund.

RIYAZ AHMED KHAN

A post-graduate in economics from Aligarh Muslim University, Khan is an economic officer with the finance ministry. He is currently in charge of the social sector unit. Khan has prepared a new agricultural index taking the base year of 2004-05.
