Desi MNC mfrs next only to US
The US scored most highly for management capabilities of all manufacturers, followed closely by Sweden, Japan, Germany and, after a relatively large gap, the UK.
LONDON: Indian multinational manufacturers are second only to their US counterparts when it comes to possessing competent management capabilities, according to a survey by consultancy firm Mckinsey and London School of Economics.
The survey took into account the strategic investment undertaken by firm in emerging economies like India and their success in recruiting skilled workers.
The findings of the survey were in stark contrast to the position of Indian firms that operate within the domestic market, Financial Times said today.
Overall, India appeared at the bottom among the 12 countries that were surveyed.
"India's poor position in the overall league table of management skills of all companies may be related to the country's historically weak economic performance and restrictive government rules that have been eased only in the past decade," the daily said.
The respondents included multinational subsidiaries and independent businesses with average annual sales of 44 million dollars and a workforce of at least 250 employees.
The US scored most highly for management capabilities of all manufacturers, followed closely by Sweden, Japan, Germany and, after a relatively large gap, the UK, the newspaper said.
