Delhi retains top position in competitiveness: Report
NEW DELHI: Delhi has retained the top rank in the list of competitiveness among states this year, according to a report by IFC.

Delhi leads in related and supporting industry pillars which comprises supplier sophistication and institutional support providing a positive environment for businesses to prosper, says the report released by the Institute for Competitiveness (IFC).

Goa is ranked second, followed by Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh at 27, Bihar at 28 and Nagaland at 29 are the lowest ranked states.

Delhi stood at the top position last year too, India State Competitiveness Report 2013 said.

The fifth edition of the report is based on the microeconomic diamond model laid down by management guru Michael E Porter.

The core of the model is based on four pillars of competitiveness -- factor conditions, demand conditions, context for strategy and rivalry and supporting and related industries. These four pillars are interlinked with one another and are instrumental in determining the overall competitiveness of any economy.

The report categorises states based on per capita GDP. Among transition economies, Tamil Nadu leads the ranking followed by Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.

Among investment-based economies, Mizoram takes top spot, followed by Andhra Pradesh in the second spot and Sikkim in the third.

Among the changeover/evolving economies, Orissa is the most competitive followed by Rajasthan and J&K.
