NEW DELHI: Coming out with the first State Level Public Enterprises Survey, the Centre today said it has begun the exercise of sharing best practices of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) with state governments.

Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Praful Patel has written to the state chief ministers in this regard.

"With a view to share our experiences with state governments and also benefit from sharing their best practices, we have brought out the first State Level Public Enterprises (SLPEs) Survey," the statement quoting the minister said.

This first step will lay a solid foundation to bring about the best in public sector enterprises, it added.

The survey covered about 625 SLPEs. Of the total surveyed units, 357 SLPEs earned profits, while about 190 such units incurred losses during the 2007-08 period.

The survey revealed that state-owned Orissa Mining Corp topped the coveted list of 10 most profit-making SLPEs during the period under review, while Delhi Jal Board was the biggest loss-making firm during the period.
