Can Asia keep growing as oil and debt bite? IMF’s Krishna Srinivasan explains

Asia's share of global growth has jumped from a quarter in 2000 to 68% this year, a "huge leap," says Krishna Srinivasan, Director of the IMF's Asia and Pacific Department. The IMF has upgraded Asia's growth forecast to 4.8% this year and India's to 7%.But the boom faces three tests. The energy shock is hitting oil importers hardest. Fiscal buffers across the region are thinning after years of shocks. And rising bond yields in the US, Europe and Japan are spilling over into Asia, pushing up borrowing costs. What does that mean for you? "Interest rates are going to rise," he says, and servicing any loan will get harder.#imf #asiaeconomy #oilshock #debttrap #bondyields #economictimes
