Call to improve qtrly GDP estimatio

NEW DELHI: Country's chief statistician Pronab Sen on Friday underlined the need to improve data for quarterly estimates of GDP and update methodology for estimating employment. "Quarterly estimates of GDP are something new and we need to improve them as they are being widely used by large section of industry," Mr Sen said.

Another area of statistics that needs improvement was employment estimates, he said. Noting that the economic complexities have changed over the years, Mr Sen said with rapid growth the importance of credible employment estimates as an input in policy making will increase.
