Assocham expresses concern over inflation

A delegation from industry body Assocham met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed the issue of rising inflation which has crossed six per cent.

NEW DELHI: A delegation from industry body Assocham met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed the issue of rising inflation which has crossed six per cent.

A release from Assocham said Singh expressed concern over the inflation rate and suggested the industry to concentrate on enhancing supplies to tame inflation.

The delegation comprising past president Hari Shankar Singhania, K P Singh and Secretary General D S Rawat as well as senior vice-president of Assocham Sajjan Jindal met the PM last night.

According to the release, the Prime Minister is of the view that the situation caused due to inflation can be easily tackled, if the industry hasten the process of adding on to their capacities and sterengethen supplies.

During the meeting, Assocham opposed iron ore exports and spoke of strengethening the base of domestic steel industry.
