Approach Paper aims at 10% growth target

The Approach Paper to the 11th Five-Year Plan, as approved by the National Development Council, aims at a growth target of about 10 per cent by the end of the Plan in 2011-12 fiscal, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

NEW DELHI: The Approach Paper to the 11th Five-Year Plan, as approved by the National Development Council, aims at a growth target of about 10 per cent by the end of the Plan in 2011-12 fiscal, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

The Paper has set the growth target for the next Plan period (2007-08 to 2011-12) at nine per cent annually and aimed at putting the economy on a sustainable growth trajectory with a growth rate of about 10 per cent by the end of the period.

This is higher than the average growth rate for the 10th Plan period (2002-03 to 2006-07) which is likely to be 7.8 per cent, Minister of State for Planning M V Rajasekharan said in a written reply.

He said the 11th Five-Year Plan has not been formulated so far.

Knowledge Commission: The Report of the National Knowledge Commission (NKC) on higher education sent by the Planning Commission to concerned Ministries has favoured an independent Regulatory Authority for Higher Education, Rajasekharan said.

BSNL: Revenue of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd is expected to increase from the present level of nine billion US dollars to 20 billion dollars during 2010-11, Communication and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran said.
