All-India CPI for industrial workers rises by 5 points in July

In terms of monthly change, it increased by 1.79 per cent during the month against (-) 1.08 per cent during the corresponding month in 2016, according to an official statement.

SHIMLA: All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) increased by five points in July, the first month after the GST implementation and rose from 245 to 250.

In terms of monthly change, it increased by 1.79 per cent during the month against (-) 1.08 per cent during the corresponding month in 2016, according to an official statement.

However, the inflation increased from 1.08 per cent to 1.79 per cent during the month compared to 6.46 per cent in July last year.

Similarly, food inflation stood at (-) 0.32 per cent against (-) 1.28 per cent in July compared to 9.34 per cent last year.

The maximum pressure came from house rent index, rice, pure ghee, chillies, onion, brinjal, lady finger, potato, onion, fruits, vegetables, beedi, cooking gas and kerosene.

However, the increase was checked with downward trend in prices of wheat, pulses, mustard oil, poultry, coconut, lemon and petrol.

The indices of 32 centres were above and 42 centres were below the all-India level.

Jamshedpur recorded highest increase of 11 points, followed by Delhi and Ranchi (10 points), Varanasi and Amritsar (9 points) while Goa recorded decrease of 1 point and there was no change in six centres.
