SIVAGANGA: Finance Minister P Chidamabram on Saturday said the government will take care to see that the global recession did not have any direct impact on the Indian economy that will continue to grow at 8 per cent this fiscal.

The eight per cent growth rate achieved in the previous years would be sustained this year, he said at the inauguration of the renovated spinning mill of the National Textile Corp at Kalaiyarkoil near here in his constituency.

Though the Indian economy was linked with the world economy, the global recession would not have any direct impact on the country's economy, he said.

He said the government was rehabilitating all the sick industrial units, whether it was in public or private sector. "We want both the private and public sector to thrive," he said.

The rehabilitation of sick units was mainly to increase the employment opportunities, he added.

Minister of state for textile E V K S Elangovan also participated in the function.
