31 per cent more rains this monsoon season in Rajasthan

JAIPUR: Rajasthan has recorded 31 per cent more rainfall this monsoon season so far with incessant rains leading to flood-like situations in parts of the state.

The state has recorded 380.74 mm of rains from June 1 to this morning against the normal rainfall of 290.89 mm. It is 30.89 per cent more than the normal, the State Water Resources department said.

Of the total 33 districts, 11 recorded excess, 10 gauged abnormal rains and eight recorded normal rains while four districts of Dholpur, Karauli, Alwar and Dausa received deficit rains.

Jhalawar received maximum 876.46 mm of rains during this period against normal 445.10 mm while Sirohi recorded 733.43 mm against 431.30 mm.

Districts under 'abnormal rains' category are - Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Churu, Jodhpur, Jalore, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Pali, Nagaur and Jhalawar while Hanumangarh, Sirohi, Sikar, Kota, Baran, Bundi, Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand recorded excess rains.

Ajmer, Bhilwara, Tonk, Bharatpur, Sawaimadhopur, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Chittorgarh received normal rains.

Southern parts of the state bordering Gujarat faced flood- like situation. Districts of Jalore, Sirohi and other nearby areas received incessant rains few days back.

Additional SP Jalore Rameshwar Lal said the situation was now under control.

"Incessant rains led to flood-like situation few days back. Hundreds of people were rescued by joint teams of police and civil administration. People were also airlifted by Air Force helicopters. The situation has become normal now," Lal, who coordinated the rescue operations in the worst-affected Bhinmal, told PTI.

The districts which received 20 to 59 per cent more than normal rainfall fall under 'excess' category while those receiving 60 per cent or more rains fall under 'abnormal' category.

Officials said 184 dams out of the total 761 in the state are fully filled, 325 are partially filled, 208 are empty and information for 44 is not available.
