World coffee exports up 2% in April-June quarter: ICO
Shipments of coffee in June rose marginally by 5 per cent to 9.58 million bags from 9.11 million bags in the same month of 2011.
Worldwide shipments of the brew stood at 28.42 million bags (of 60 kg each) in the April-June quarter of the 2010-11 coffee year (October-September), according to International Coffee Organisation ( ICO) data.
Coffee exports were reported down at 27.64 million bags in the January-March quarter of the 2011-12 coffee year compared to 28.13 million bags in the year-ago period.
The shipments stood at 24.39 million bags in the October- December quarter of 2011-12 coffee year as against 24.74 million bags in the same period of the previous coffee year.
Shipments of coffee in June rose marginally by 5 per cent to 9.58 million bags from 9.11 million bags in the same month of 2011.
However, on account of decline in the first two quarters, coffee exports were down in the October-June period of the present coffee year.
Exports in the first 9 months of 2011-12 coffee year were down by 0.3 per cent to 81.16 million bags compared to 81.41 million bags in the same period in the last coffee year.
According to ICO, exports in the first half of the 2011-12 coffee year fell by 2.3 per cent to 51.7 million bags from 52.9 million bags in the October-March period of the 2010-11 coffee year, mainly on account of drop in shipments by Brazil and Columbia.
