Amidst the worst global recession in generations, West Asian countries have become one of the favourite destination for Indian exports, with electronic hardware registering a growth of 107 per cent during 2008-09.

DUBAI: Amidst the worst global recession in generations, West Asian countries have become one of the favourite destination for Indian exports, with electronic hardware registering a growth of 107 per cent during 2008-09.

"Export of electronics hardware increased from $3279 million estimated in 2007-08 to $6790 million in 2008-09 in value terms, Kamal Vachani, regional director of electronics and computer software export promotion council (ESC) for the Middle East, has said.

He said the share of electronics hardware exports from India to Middle East has increased from 12.53 per cent to 14.81 per cent making Middle East Countries the 3rd top destination for Indian electronics hardware export during the year 2008-09."

Export of software and related services has also registered an excellent growth of 161 per cent while export of software and services increased from $569 million estimated in 2007-08 to $1486 million estimated in 2008-09, Vachani said.

According to him, the growth in export to Middle East countries shows the rising interest amongst the Indian ICT exporting community to explore Middle East and neighbouring countries for export prospects.
