While they will have to wait for the official order, as per their understanding the new levy is a "reciprocal tariff" and does not apply to automobile and component manufacturers, the executives told ET.
India does not export vehicles to the US, and auto component exports already attract a duty of 25% in the US, with effect from May 3, 2025. Component makers said since the levy on auto parts is the same for all countries, there is no impact on competitiveness of products made in India.
