Saudi considering India's request for hike in Haj quota

Saudi Arabia is still considering India's request for an increase in the Haj quota, the Indian embassy in Riyadh clarified on Tuesday.


DUBAI: Saudi Arabia is still considering India's request for an increase in the Haj quota, the Indian embassy in Riyadh clarified on Tuesday.

"The official request from the Indian side to increase the quota further is under consideration by the Saudi side," the embassy said in a press release.

It noted that a section of the media had quoted Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia M O H Farook as saying that the Haj quota for India has been increased to 1,71,000 this year.

"Ambassador only informed the media that the Haj quota of India has been fixed as 1,60,491," the release said.
