Handicraft items worth Rs 3,500 crore are exported from Panipat district of Haryana to different countries annually.

CHANDIGARH: Handicraft items worth Rs 3,500 crore are exported from Panipat district of Haryana to different countries annually.

The fact came out at a one-day seminar which was organized today for the promotion of export activities from Haryana at Panipat under the aegis of India Export Organization and Haryana Industries and Commerce Department.

Giving details of the total exports from Panipat district, the Joint Director, Commerce and Industries, Bhagmal Takshak said that Panipat district has 350 exporters.

As many as 50,000 handlooms were operational in the district. The district has 4,500 micro and small scale industries, he said, adding the number of big and medium scale industries in Panipat is 43.

Speaking at the seminar, the Additional Director General, Foreign Trade, Sumeet Jairath said that the combined efforts of the state and Central governments could give a major fillip to the export activities in the country.

With the use of modern technology, the production could be increased as well as qualitative improvement could be brought in it.

Director General, Commerce and Industries Department, Haryana, T L Satyaparkash said that as a result of the liberal and progressive polices of the State Government, exports from Haryana have increased considerably during last five years.
