Prime Minister Manmohan Singh hails way forward
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met trade ministers from 29 countries who participated in the informal WTO ministerial here and congratulated them for breaking the logjam over Doha.
He said an inconclusive Doha round would only encourage voices of protectionism and would hurt all economies. He complimented them for having reached a consensus on holding a followup meeting within 10 days at Geneva.
He urged participants at the forthcoming Geneva meeting to bring forth "a spirit of constructive cooperation" if they were to aim for "practical, pragmatic solutions," a government official told ET. The ministers, including those from the US, the UK, Brazil, China, Australia, Egypt, Tanzania, South Africa and Indonesia, lauded the Indian initiative, terming it an "extraordinary success"
