Pachauri seeks Sino-Indian joint efforts on climate change
India should look at closer and intensive co-operation with China to protect the environment and to safeguard economic gains, said inter governmental panel on climate change chairman RK Pachauri on Monday.
NEW DELHI: India should look at closer and intensive co-operation with China to protect the environment and to safeguard economic gains, said inter governmental panel on climate change chairman RK Pachauri on Monday.
“Since India and China would emerge as major economic powers in a decade, it is imperative for the two countries to move closer and forge linkages for intensive environment protection. This would lead to economic development and help carbon emissions stay at acceptable levels,” said Mr Pachauri addressing mediapersons in the conference organised by industry body Assocham.
He also called for managing imminent water and electricity crisis as their consumption in India is not regulated.
Currently, domestic water and electricity are highly subsidised due to several political considerations and their consumption cannot be regulated. This places heavy pressure on the environment and disrupts its balance and ecology, he said.
Power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said his ministry is encouraging generation of energy via various non-conventional sources of energy.
