Oilmeals export dip by 18%

Export of oilmeals has sagged by 18 per cent at 1,079,625 tonnes to 1,309,150 in April-August 2007, compared to last year.

NEW DELHI: Export of oilmeals has sagged by 18 per cent at 1,079,625 tonnes to 1,309,150 in April-August 2007, compared to last year. In the month of August alone, it has slumped 52 per cent to 1,22,850 tonnes from 254,000 tonnes, said the export data released by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEAI).

A negative trend in the export of oilmeals, was witnessed because a few importing nations like China, Indonesia, Taiwan and Japan have cut their imports from India. The import of oilmeals has slid between 6-7.5 per cent, the data revealed.

The export of soybean meal has fallen to 7,96,500 tonnes from 5,38,825 tonnes and groundnut meal has come down to 43,100 from 4,775 tonnes, said the data.

Whereas castor oil and ricebran exports have increased in the first five months of the current year. "Due to increased buying from South Korea, export of castor meal has jumped to 1,34,950 tonnes from 49,350 tonnes," said the data.
