To ease new vehicles imports, the government today allowed their shipments through four additional locations, including the Mumbai air cargo complex.

NEW DELHI: To ease new vehicles imports, the government today allowed their shipments through four additional locations, including the Mumbai air cargo complex.

In a notification, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said new vehicles imports will be allowed through Kochi, Chennai airport, Mumbai air cargo complex and Talegaon inland container depot (ICD) near Pune.

Earlier, such imports were permitted only through the Customs ports at Nhava Sheva (Mumbai), Kolkata, and Chennai, Tughlakabad ICD in Delhi and Delhi air cargo complex and the Mumbai port.

Most of the vehicles sold in the luxury segment including cars like BMW 7-Series, Audi A8, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Porsche among others are imported as completely built units. However, some of the best selling luxe models like BMW 5-Series, Audi A6 are assembled locally.
