Nirmala Sitharaman, WTO chief discuss need for 'balanced outcome' at ministerial conference
New Delhi: Commerce and industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman and director general of the World Trade Organisation ( WTO) Roberto Azevedo on Tuesday called for a balanced outcome at the ministerial conference in December.

This, they said, would be possible through "strong political commitment and engagement".

Sitharaman who is on her first visit to the WTO headquarters in Geneva, exchanged views on a range of issues which are of interest to India.

Beyond the ministerial conference preparations, the discussions focused on the state of the global economy and the importance of trade as a contributor to economic growth, employment and development.

The 11th Ministerial Conference is to be held in Buenos Aires in Argentina from December 10-13.
