The Council was announced on the sidelines of a two-day GIC (Global In-House Center) conclave in Pune.
The aim of the Council will be to gauge various dynamics that will encourage Japan GICs to grow in India and address various challenges at policy level as well as other matters that effect the growth of Japanese GICs here, Nasscom said in a statement.
Nasscom Japan Council will help identify growth enablers and address various challenges for GICs in the country, Nasscom President R Chandrashekhar said.
"We also aim to undertake activities which will make India a favourable destination for more GICs in Japan willing to expand globally and recommend on policies which will enable a seamless ecosystem of operations to address immigration, taxation and partnering with the government," he added.
This is a step in the right direction though some would say it was long overdue, Sony India Software President and MD Takeyari San said.
"I am looking forward to see this forum delivering value to India-Japan collaboration in the Technology, IT and ITeS," he added.
India is one of the leading locations for GICs with 30 per cent share of new set-ups globally, playing an important role in growth of Indian IT-BPM industry and the GIC exports stood at USD 17 billion by end of FY2014.
At present, there are about 825 GICs spread across tier I, II and III cites and employs 530,000 people in the country.
