Mozambique seeks India's tech support for coir units

This plea was made by a high-level delegation from Mozambique led by Francisco Itai Meque, Governor of Inhambane, which visited various coir units and Coir Research Centre of Coir Board at Kalavoor in Alappuzha.


KOCHI: Mozambique on Wednesday asked the Indian government to extend technical support for the development of coir industry in the African nation.

This plea was made by a high-level delegation from Mozambique led by Francisco Itai Meque, Governor of Inhambane, which visited various coir units and Coir Research Centre of Coir Board at Kalavoor in Alappuzha today.

Besides the Governor, the delegation included Carlos Agostinho do Rosario, High Commissioner of Mozambique to India and other officials.

The delegation attended a meeting at CCRI where various matters connected with the development of coir industry were discussed at length.

A presentation depicting the various facets of the Coir Industry was made before the delegation.

Board Chairman A C Jose explained the board's various activities. The delegation also visited coir mats making units and coir spinning units at Chertala and were told how the industry converts waste into wealth.
