MMTC to import 22,000 tons pulses from Myanmar, Australia

State-owned firm MMTC on Tuesday invited bids for import of 22,000 tons of pulses for arrival in March-April 2008.

NEW DELHI: State-owned firm MMTC on Tuesday invited bids for import of 22,000 tons of pulses for arrival in March-April 2008.

The company plans to import 12,000 tons of pigeon peas (arhar), including fair average quality (FAQ) arhar, 6,000 tons black matpe (urad) and 4,000 tons desi chick peas (chana), MMTC said.

The bids would close on February 26 and the decision on the tender would be taken by March four, MMTC said on its website.

The company said the bidder should import pigeon peas and black matpe which are grown in Myanmar in 2008 season while desi chick peas should be of Australian origin from 2007 crop.

The minimum bid quantity for these pulses would be 2,000 tons each. The commodities should arrive at the port of Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai in March-April this year. MMTC said.

To meet the domestic needs, the government has contracted to import 14.02 lakh tons of pulses out of which, 10.7 lakh tons have arrived in the country as of February eight.
