Middle-East major market for Indian colour TVs
The Middle East remains a major destination for India's consumer electronics exports, datas show.
The export of Indian colour TVs nearly doubled during the year 2005-06 compared to the year 2004-05, according to official figures, with the net worth increasing to $190 million from $93.25 million in respective years.
"There has been an growth of 93 per cent in all exports to Middle East countries during the year 2005-06 over 2004-05", Kamal Vachani of Electronic and Company Software Export Promotion Council (ESC), which is sponsored by Indian government, said.
"In value terms, total export to Middle East countries increased from $90 million in 2004-05 to $175 million in 2005-06", he said.
A Statistical Year Book of the ESC identified UAE as the country with the second largest share of Indian colour TV imports at 27.54 per cent, with Italy having the largest at 45.65 per cent during the year 2005-06.
Vachani, who has been reappointed for two years as the head of ESC for the region, said Middle East countries remain the top destinations for India's consumer electronics exports since the year 2000-01.
Previously, Singapore, Hong Kong and other South-East Asian countries used to be top destinations for India's consumer electronics exports, he added.
