Japan open for EPA with India
Japan has expressed its willingness to enter into an economic partnership agreement (EPA) with India, given India’s growth performance of 8%.
Mr Kobayashi added that his delegation will meet Indian electronics companies and government officials during its visit, to assess the current situation in electronics and software in India.
"We need more collaboration between CII, MAIT and JEITA," the minister said.
The Manufacturers' Association of Information Technology (MAIT) and the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) also signed a MoU to support activities such as seminars and training by Japanese and Indian specialists in both countries. The two will also facilitate the exchange of both academics and business professionals.
MAIT and JEITA will together disseminate information to their members about business interests expressed by Indian and Japanese IT enterprises, as per the MoU document. They will also exchange information pertaining to the IT industry of both countries to facilitate the advancement of the IT and electronics industries.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr P Rajendran, Member, CII and COO of NIIT Ltd said that electronics & IT is an extremely important area for Indo- Japan co-operation. The 8 - fold initiative agreed upon by the Prime Ministers of the two countries states that the joint Task force on ICT and ICT Forum will be utilized to develop a roadmap for increased ICT co-operation.
He called upon Japanese companies to establish large manufacturing facilities in India to be able to enjoy a significant share in growing market for consumer durables like TVs, CD/ DVD players, audio equipment & other entertainment products.
