India's line pipe export to US doubles in August

Export of line pipes from India to the United States has doubled to 34,000 tons in August as compared to the previous month, even though overall imports of the product by the US declined significantly.

NEW DELHI: Export of line pipes from India to the United States has doubled to 34,000 tons in August as compared to the previous month, even though overall imports of the product by the US declined significantly.

"US imports of line pipe in August are showing a significant decrease in preliminary import data. At the same time, import of line pipe from India doubled from 17,000 tons in July to 34,000 tons in August," Steel Business Briefing (SBB) reports quoting US government data.

Imports of line pipes by the US has slided by 24 per cent to 1,99,000 tons in August from 2,63,000 tons in July, it said.

The decline was on account of reduction in imports from China, Canada and Korea, which were the three largest sellers of pipes to the US in July. From Canada, the imports fell from 49,000 tons in July to 24,000 tons in August, SBB said.
