Indian team to sensitise Pakistan traders on India's trade regime

Delegation will comprise officials of Indian Customs, Bureau of Indian Standards, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and Export Inspection Council.

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of trade regulators from India will visit Pakistan tomorrow to sensitise Pakistani exporters and importers about the Indian trade regime as the two neighbours seek to normalise economic ties.

The delegation will comprise officials of Indian Customs, Bureau of Indian Standards, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and Export Inspection Council, said a statement issued by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan today.

The three-day visit from January 25 is part of the process of normalising trade relations between India and Pakistan, the statement said.

The Commerce Ministry and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan have conducted extensive interactive sessions with all Pakistani stakeholders to identify "non-tariff barriers in the Indian import regime", the statement said.

India and Pakistan recently announced a series of measures aimed at normalising economic ties and boosting trade to USD six billion within three years.

Pakistan has said it intends to give India Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status by the end of the year.
