India, US conclude two-day trade talks

India and the United States on Wednesday concluded two-day ministerial-level talks on the proposed first phase of the bilateral trade agreement (BTA), amid efforts to finalise an initial deal before the expiry of a 10 per cent temporary tariff regime imposed by Washington on global trading partners on February 24.

The discussions, held between Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in New Delhi, focused on reviewing progress in ongoing negotiations and identifying avenues to deepen economic engagement between the two countries. The US tariffs are set to expire on July 24.

“Concluded a series of meetings with @USTradeRep Ambassador Jamieson Greer and his delegation this morning. We reviewed progress of the ongoing India-US trade discussions and explored avenues to further deepen our economic partnership,” Goyal said in a post on X.

"I appreciate Ambassador Greer's leadership and the sustained efforts of both teams in advancing our discussions in a constructive and forward-looking manner," he added in the post.
