India signs BIPA with Jordan, Syria

Government on Thursday signed separate agreements with Jordan and Syria to increase the funds flow from the two countries.

NEW DELHI: Government on Thursday signed separate agreements with Jordan and Syria to increase the funds flow from the two countries, an official statement said.

The agreements came into effect with the exchange of instruments of ratification (IRs) between the two countries and India, the statement said.

With the two bilateral investment promotion and protection agreements (BIPA), India now has ratified agreements with 63 countries. It has so far signed BIPA with 73 countries.

"BIPA seeks to promote and protect investments from either country in the territory of the other country with the objective of increasing bilateral investment flows," the statement said.

The agreement requires that both the trading nations create favourable conditions for each others' investors. Investments from either country are to be accorded National Treatment and Most Favoured Nation Treatment.
