India should allow exports of 2 million metric tons of sugar in the 2025/26 marketing year starting from October 1 as the country is set to produce surplus, the head of a leading industry body said on Thursday.

Sugar mills can divert up to 5 million tons of sugar for production of ethanol in the new season, Gautam Goel, president of Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association told an industry conference.
