India seeks French expertise in technology

Kumar brought up the issue during a meeting with French Minister for Higher Education Laurent Wauquiez in Paris on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: The Union Minister of State for Planning, Science and Technology Ashwani Kumar has sought French cooperation in technology-related areas where France has a high level of expertise.

Kumar brought up the issue during a meeting with French Minister for Higher Education Laurent Wauquiez in Paris on Tuesday.

"Geological mapping, water resource management, sub-soil management, health, bio technology, nano material, Information Communication Technology, cloud computing and supercomputing," were areas where the two countries could cooperate", said a press release issued by the government.

During the meeting, the Minister stressed on the need to build on existing good bilateral cooperation in the area of Science and Technology, the release said. Kumar also underlined the need for commercializing technology and translating research into the well-being of the society.

The French Minister too expressed satisfaction at the level of cooperation and conveyed that India was a key partner for France in university cooperation, the release added.
