NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday announced an emergency aid of Rs one crore for Uganda in view of loss of life and property there due to unprecedented recent floods.

The assistance, given as a token of New Delhi's solidarity with the people of the African nation, can be used to provide relief supplies from India or for local procurement, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said here.

The Prime Minister has sent a letter to the Ugandan President Yoweri Kugata Museveni, conveying condolences on the loss of life and property due to unprecedented floods in that country.

Singh will be travelling to Uganda next month to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meet (CHOGM).
