Human chain against ASEAN free trade pact on Oct 2

Prakash Karat, state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan would form the last links of the 'human chain' on October 2, being organised to demand withdrawal of the ASEAN free trade agreement.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat, state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan would form the last links of the 'human chain' on October 2, being organised to demand withdrawal of the ASEAN free trade agreement.

In a statement here, CPI-M district committee secretary Kadakampally Surendran said two lakh people would participate in the `human chain' from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram along the 51 km-stretch of the national highway.

"The human chain will end at Raj Bhavan with participants taking a pledge against the agreement," Surendran said in the statement.

Arrangements had been made not to cause inconvenience to he public during the agitation, the statement said.
