Huge potential for Indo-Belgian trade
Huge opportunities were available for developing trade between India and Belgium, Georges L C Baekelmans, executive council member of Indo-Belgian aLuxembourg Chamber of Commerce and Industry said Tuesday.

CHENNAI: Huge opportunities were available for developing trade between India and Belgium, Georges L C Baekelmans, executive council member of Indo-Belgian aLuxembourg Chamber of Commerce and Industry said Tuesday.
Participating in a seminar on `How to start business with Belgium: A gateway to Europe", he said: "Belgium needs raw materials and semi-finished goods and people liked hand-made materials, silk, authentic foreign products and products related to culture and heritage."
"Lack of awareness(about trade potential) is preventing big business", he said adding the Belgian media had been misinforming the country about India, portraying it as a poor, agricultural country.
"Belgium is famous for mirrors, chocolates, French fries, beer and weaving materials. Chocolates are cheaper in Belgium than that in India. The country has many varieties of beer. French fries should really be named as `Belgian fries' as it was invented in Belgium", he claimed.
"The social security system in Belgium is very good. Parents need not pay for children's education and most of the health expenses will be reimbursed by the government", he said.
Herman Merckx, Consul General of Belgium, said the country was located at the Centre of Western Europe and had good infrasturcture like airways, shipping and railways. "Once inside Belgium, you can enter the European market. If you set up a branch or possess 15 per cent share in it, you will be exempted from dividends".
Most of the Belgians knew French, German, Dutch and English and the employees need not hirifferent personnel to work in those languages, he added.
