Gurgaon IT/ITES exports touch Rs 18,000 cr
The total exports from district Gurgaon in Information Technology and IT-enabled services industry has touched Rs 18,000 crore at the end of FY'08.
In the year 2006-07, the software export from Gurgaon was Rs 15,000 crore whereas it was Rs 10,700 crore in 2005-06.
"In Gurgaon, the industry is growing at a rate of about 40 percent, which is much above the national average of about 28 per cent. In order to give boost to IT industry, a regional IT industry promotion office has been set up," Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Gupta said today.
He said Gurgaon is fast emerging as an IT hub and there are about 400 IT and IT-Enabled Services (ITES) companies operating in the district.
"It has emerged as a preferred destination for IT industry after the announcement of IT policy by Haryana Government. Recently, US-based Thompson, known for graphics and animation, also set up an office in Gurgaon," he said at a function in Gurgaon.
Gupta said the already established big companies like HCL, Wipro, Genpact, TCS, Microsoft, Oracle have expanded their business and they now have a number of units in Gurgaon.
The electronic city in Gurgaon is spread over an area of 40 acres for the IT industry, Gupta said. He added that a software technology park is also being developed within the city in an area of 14,000 square feet.
"In the prevailing liberal industrial atmosphere, economic growth of Gurgaon district is estimated to reach 10-15 per cent during the next five years as compared to the national growth of 8-9 percent," he said.
Construction of the Qutub Minar-Gurgaon Metro Corridor which is in progress and would be completed by January 2010 would also give boost to software companies.
