Great scope for enhancing trade relations with India: David Cameron

AMRITSAR :Prime Minister David Cameron has said there is great scope for enhancing trade relations between India and Britain.

He made these remarks during a visit to 'Lal Qilla' rice mill today when an MoU was signed between the Amritsar-based company and an England-based group for supply of basmati rice.

Arvinder Pal Singh, Director, 'Lal Qilla', quoted Cameron as saying that the Memorandum of Understanding would usher in a new era of developing trade relations.

'Lal Qilla' will export 12,000 metric tonnes of basmati rice to UK-based East End Foods Company.

Cameron said that basmati rice is becoming a major food item in England as a number of English families are now relishing the Indian aromatic foodgrain.

Singh added that the English company offered technical collaboration for in-house laboratory facilities, including for testing pesticides that would ensure greater quality standards for basmati rice.

Cameron said England was proud of the agricultural progress made by India and especially Punjab that have been contributing to meet the food needs of India and the world.

Singh said the British Prime Minister was shown the paddy processing mill, where he discussed various aspects of rice production and about the concept of farm-to-fork delivery system.

Earlier, Cameron was presented with a Phulkari shawl and a picture frame of Golden Temple.

He was accompanied by Kuldeep Singh Wouhra, Director of East End Foods England, British High Commissioner James Bevan and other members of the delegation.
