Govt slaps anti-dumping duty on Taiwan firm
India has imposed anti-dumping duty on imports of Potassium Carbonate, a critical raw material used in manufacture of television picture tubes and GLS lamps from Taiwan Pulp and Paper Corporation.

NEW DELHI: India has imposed anti-dumping duty on imports of Potassium Carbonate, a critical raw material used in manufacture of television picture tubes, GLS lamps and eye glasses, from Taiwan Pulp and Paper Corporation.
While the anti-dumping duty on import of Potassium Carbonate from Taiwan had already been imposed, the government had granted an exemption to Taiwan Pulp and Paper Corporation (TPPC) on a condition of price undertaking.
The price undertaking is a written commitment by an importer to raise the import price of the product to avoid the possibility of an anti-dumping duty. No anti-dumping duty is recommended on such importer from whom price undertaking has been accepted.
"With the violation of price undertaking conditions by Taiwan Pulp and Paper Corporation, the government has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of Potassium Carbonate," the notification said today.
The dumping levy on TPPC will be 70.45 dollar per metric tonne, as applicable to all other non-cooperative exporters from Taiwan. It will be paid in Indian currency, it said.
Potassium Carbonate is also used by the fertiliser industry, rubber industry, pesticide industry, drug and pharmaceuticals, dyes and potassium-based chemical industries.
