Govt may open skies for Asean

The government is considering a proposal made by Asean for an ‘open skies’ agreement to boost air connectivity between India and the region, civil aviation secretary Ajay Prasad said.

NEW DELHI: The government is considering a proposal made by Asean for an ‘open skies’ agreement to boost air connectivity between India and the region, civil aviation secretary Ajay Prasad said. India already has a limited ‘open skies’ pact with Asean countries, but it has not been implemented in the original form shaped by the NDA government.

As of now, India operates an open skies pact with the US and a ‘limited open skies’ pact with the UK. While a liberal bilateral agreement is in place with Sri Lanka, entitlements in the case of other countries is regulated with periodic agreements.
