Govt allows export of wheat flour to Maldives

India made an exception to the ban on wheat and wheat flour exports and allowed sale of 17,000 tons of wheat flour to Maldives.

NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday made an exception to the ban on wheat and wheat flour exports and allowed sale of 17,000 tons of wheat flour to Maldives.

"The prohibition imposed on export of wheat flour shall not be applicable to export of 17,000 tons of wheat flour to Maldives through STC and MMTC, the Director General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.

It said the exception was only for this transaction. Last year in February, the government had put a ban on wheat exports till December 31, 2007. It was later extended indefinitely and wheat flour was also brought under the ban from October, 2007.

It had banned export of wheat and wheat flour such as maida, samolina (Rava, Sirgi), wholemeal atta and resultant atta.
