Fan exports hit due to lack of level playing field
Fan exports have been affected due to a lack of a level playing field in some countries, including China.
Association Chairman Sunil Wadhwa told reporters here that exporting fans was not remunerative and viable in the absence of level playing field in some countries, including China, as export incentives did not fully cover the refund of the taxes paid on exports.
Wadhwa, who is also Managing Director of Usha International Ltd, said that IFMA and its members had made representations to the DGFT and EEPC for increasing export incentives to a minimum of 14.5 per cent.
"Our Association believes that if we can work towards maintaining reasonable price competitiveness, there is no reason why export of Indian ceiling fans in particular, cannot double in a year," he said.
Wadhwa, speaking after IFMA's seventh AGM, said while production grew close to 20 per cent compared to the previous year, exports witnessed a growth of seven per cent. In the domestic sector, the growth was 21 per cent.
He said, that in the first five months of the current fiscal, there was a further growth of 24 per cent.
To a question, he said the IFMA was working closely with the Bureau of Indian Standards and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency to develop benchmarks for review, revision and reaffirmation of quality standards and energy efficiency ratings.
