AGARTALA: Deplorable road condition, lack of proper banking service, visa problems and restricted movement of vehicles were hindering bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh, president of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (IBCCI) said.

Abdul Matlab Ahmed, the IBCCI president who is leading a five-member Bangladesh business delegation to Tripura, told newsmen, We are going to discuss the banking problem with State Bank of India (SBI) as well as Sonali Bank of Bangladesh to offer better banking facilities to exporters and importers.

Investors from Bangladesh, he said, were interested in joint venture in food processing, bamboo, rubber and paper factories.

Ahmed assured newsmen that all the non-tariff trade barriers would be sorted out within next one year. Despite existence of business or investment opportunities in Tripura, we have not been able to tap the full potential.

But with the changing political scenario in Bangladesh, the IBCCI would like to move forward to enhance bilateral trade, he said.
