Exports from Punjab grow 22.18 pc in 2006-07
The total exports from Punjab for the year 2006-07 has posted a growth of 22.18 per cent at Rs 11,798 crore, compared to shipments of Rs 9,656 crore in 2005-06, according to the latest report of SLBC.
However, the state's share in the country's total exports has remained at 2.12 per cent during the period under review.
District wise, Ludhiana remains at top. The industrial city has attained exports of Rs 8,287.13 crore in 2006-07, up by 25.09 per cent from Rs 6624.47 crore as on March 31, 2006, the report said.
Jalandhar district, famous for sports goods, is second with exports of Rs 1,983.52 crore.
However, Patiala and Gurdaspur districts saw negative growth as exports from both districts declined considerably in 2006-07. The total exports from Patiala declined to Rs 9.90 crore from Rs 420.10 crore in 2005-06. Similarly, shipments from Gurdaspur reduced to Rs 1.07 crore from Rs 22 crore in corresponding period.
Punjab is famous for the export of bicycle, bicycle parts, hand tools, textiles, machine tools, ready-made garments, leather goods, rice, auto parts and sports goods.
