Duty on Chinese paracetamol to stay
Indian dumping duties on Chinese paracetamol exports are likely to continue, even after the expiry date of a previous dumping regulation nears.

NEW DELHI: Indian dumping duties on Chinese paracetamol exports are likely to continue, even after the expiry date of a previous dumping regulation nears.
Indian anti-dumping duties were imposed on Chinese products in 2001after an initial ruling and reinstated after a mandatory one-year period with a final ruling.
Such duties automatically expire five years after the final ruling, after which they need to be imposed afresh if they are to be continued with.
The Indian Commerce and Industry Ministry has reportedly informed the China Chamber of Commerce of Medicines and Health Products Importers and Exporters (CCCMHPIE) that it will be continuing with the anti-dumping duty.
While Chinese exporters charged the Indian Government with unfair commercial practices, in case no one contests the review, India can carry on the existing 3.26 dollar/kilogram duty for another five years, reports The China Daily.
Chinese paracetamol are priced at 2.5 dollar per kilogram, said an industry insider who declined to be named.
Apart from India, South Africa, Indonesia and the European Union have also imposed anti-dumping duties on Chinese paracetamol. It was only in Indonesia that Chinese enterprises have fought back.
China exports some 40,000 tons of paracetamol a year, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of the international market.
