Dubai World chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem will meet West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Sunday to discuss the group's investment plans in the state.
KOLKATA: Dubai World chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem will meet West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Sunday to discuss the group's investment plans in the state.
Dubai World is the holding company of Dubai Port World (DP World) which along with the Keventer Group is promoting the Kulpi minor port in West Bengal.
DP World and Keventer Group are co-promoters of Bengal Port Ltd (BPL) which has committed Rs 1,100 crore investments for the proposed Kulpi port and adjacent special economic zone (SEZ). Mr Sulayem is expected to discuss other investment options including a deep sea port, a greenfield airport and a hotel in the state.
According to sources close to DP World, Mr Sulayem will visit Darjeeling to visit the possible locations for the hotel. "Mr Sulayem will be here for the first time. He is likely to visit the city to assess the investment scenario here," state commerce and industry secretary Sabyasachi Sen told ET.
The promoters of Bengal Port Ltd, Dubai World and the Keventer group, have recently submitted a detailed project report (DPR) including the economic feasibility report for the Kulpi port to the state government.
BPL has been entrusted with the job of building the port and an adjacent SEZ. DP World holds 44.5 per cent in BPL. Another 44.5% in BPL is held by Indian promoters. The balance 11% is held by the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC).
