Commerce min urges Maha to set up ITPO in Nagpur
Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath has urged the state government of Maharashtra to facilitate in setting up an office of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) in Nagpur. The move aims at boosting business activities in the region.
Forwarding a communication from Vilas Muttemwar, minister of state for Non-Conventional Energy Sources to Vilasrao Deshmukh, chief minister of Maharashtra; Mr Nath said: "Nagpur is a big centre for trade and industrial activities in central India and the city is growing at a very fast pace. There is, therefore, an imperative need for establishment of an office of the ITPO in Nagpur for assistance to the entrepreneurs of the region. This matter is being considered by us in consultation with the ITPO, New Delhi".
The Minister has further pointed out that assistance from the state government would be required for providing a suitable piece of land – about 40 to 50 acres – to the ITPO in Nagpur so that a full-fledged office of the organisation could be established in an independent building, and has requested the state government to cosider whether this could be allotted to meet the immediate and future requirements of the ITPO as well as an exhibition centre in Nagpur.
