New Delhi: Customs' field offices under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) across the country destroyed narcotics and psychotropic drugs and substances worth Rs 79 crore on January 24.

The prohibited narcotics and psychotropic drugs and substances (NDPS) are not allowed to be traded in India. The field offices of Bhopal, Patna, Lucknow, Chennai, Pune, Shillong, Delhi and Mumbai, collectively destroyed 11,326 kgs of cannabis, 251 kg of heroin, 316 kg of ephedrine, 321 kg of ketamine, 3,549 ecstasy tablets, 25,400 bottles of phensedyl, 4,896 bottles of amphetamine and 56 kgs of other drugs, , the finance ministry said in a statement Tuesday.

“This is the first time ever that narcotics & psychotropic drugs and Substances have been simultaneously destroyed in an all India operation,” the statement added.
